Zashadu's Autumn/Winter 2014

For Autumn/Winter 2014, British/Nigerian sustainable luxury accessories brand Zashadu presents a collection of strong, signature Zashadu styles wholly suited to the cosmopolitan woman.

Zashadu’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection coincides with previous collections in its use of sustainably sourced leathers, farmed exotic skins and rough cut precious stones set in brass. Zainab Ashadu, Zashadu’s Creative Director, has chosen a varied, earthy palette of black, brown, cream and grey, while also adding a hint of undeniable glamour to the collection with strong gold, turquoise and iridescent tones.

When discussing her inspiration for the collection, Ashadu said, “I was really inspired by one particular album, which is “Cut 4 Me” by Ethiopian American singersongwriter Kelela. What happened is that I came across this record and I was listening to it over and over again, maybe ten times a day for six weeks. By the second or third week I began noticing that it was affecting the kinds of leather I was selecting. I would go to the market, have my headphones in and I was collecting leathers that I'd consider to be slightly tacky, such as shiny leathers I wouldn't normally pick up” adding, “The challenge then came when trying to decide how to marry this very energetic influence with my own aesthetic. I picked up on four aspects that I wanted to embody with this collection and that was a sultriness, aloofness, coolness and an earthy warmth, which were all feelings I was experiencing throughout the design process.”

Regardless of whether you’re heading to the office or for a night out with the girls, Zashadu’s aesthetic fits effortlessly into any lifestyle where glamour, practicality and sustainability are all cherished.

“I will always be influenced by the marriage between what I think is classy and what I feel is trashy. I'm always trying to expand on that dialogue in what is deemed chique and what is deemed trashy, and I like to bring that together.”

Selected styles from Zashadu are available in Wolf & Badger’s Mayfair, London boutique.
