MODERNIST ANARCHY : BEAU HOMME SS 14

MODERNIST ANARCHY:

RESISTANCE TO TYRANNY IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD

Modernist Anarchy is a revisionist ideology incorporating socially progres- sive thought with responsive action. In the reshaping of traditional forms, Modernist Anarchy is an affirmation of creation’s capacity to question the underlying cause of human subjugation. Network based technology can be used in the actualisation of mans’ highest and most compassionate self. The world is a new “Cybernation” with no parallel in history. Individu- als’ customary complacency, nurtured through traditional mass media, is disrupted through a new informed consciousness fostered by the internet. The internet’s capacity for instant information dissemination illuminates the abuses of power previously gone unchecked. Acquiesce to the injustice perpetuated by business and government is not to be tolerated anymore.

Modernist Anarchy fights for the opportunity of creation and prosper- ity be accessible to all. Governments and corporations must not over- rule or atrophy the collective conscience anymore. By demonstrating the ills of injustice in an transgressive and emotionally resounding way, the movement hopes to reexamine structures of corporate and govern- ment control. In the re-examination of every aspect of existence, the movement locates the obstacles hindering progress and replaces them evolutionary methods aided by practical experimentation, technology and education. Conventional expectations are disregarded to expose creative alternatives which improve, reshape and edify the human ex- perience. The recontextualization of traditional structures proposed by Modernist Anarchy is manifest in the S/S 14 collection of BEAU HOMME. Lapels extend into sweeping structural forms, sleeves fold over them- selves to form collars, swathes of fabric are added to trouser pockets.

The work and legacy of architects Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) and Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) are the guiding influences of the S/S 14 BEAU HOMME collection, in both construction and theory. Both men both are Modern- ist Anarchists. Their designs break with every mainstream conception of what a building could be. The radical functionalism and emotion coolness of Modernism is infused with a new sensuality which continues to capture the imaginations of generations today. Mans’ impulsion for beauty and variation is addressed through creations which deviate from the reduc- tive notions of form. The straight line of constraint is discarded. Curva- ceous and lyrical forms enrich the landscape by abandoning the prevail- ing authoritarian structure of public buildings. Their intent corresponds with BEAU HOMME’s; to challenge prevailing conventions through design
