MARTINE ROSE AW 13 LONDON MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

British menswear designer Martine Rose is proud to unveil her AW13 collection as
part of London Collections: Men.

Using the elite feeling of the ‘Martine Rose Gang’ created throughout past collections, Martine decided to showcase the collection in a new way this season. Similar to one of her sponsors: Vestiaire Collective, a luxury reseller renowed for innovative development and constant evolution, Martine Rose has pushed the premise of a presentation to its limits.

Partnered with award winning brand Ligne Roset, the British designer invites the audience to become part of her elusive clan upon stepping into the venue; an invitation to become initiated into the Martine Rose Crew. The space is clean so as not to distract from the collections, with this focus reflected in the furniture’s ability to turn a blank canvas into beautiful stand alone pieces. The idea of individual confidence mirrors the way the collection was designed- as separates- refined pieces to fit seamlessly into a wardrobe without forgetting the Martine Rose statement items.

Drawing on her time spent in Jamaica, Martine Rose took inspiration from the rites and rituals of the Rasta community. Elevation and status are key aspects to the community, but not through riches, through an attitude, an idea, almost a code of conduct. The images of Haile Selassie I, the Lion of Judah, are hugely prominent across the community and this idea of an all consuming image is repeated throughout the collection.

Holbein paintings of royals and members of the Church similarly match this idea of riches; inspired by the nobles’ status shown in layering furs, Martine Rose will be using t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and all importantly attitude for her Ghetto Kings.

With military providing a fundamental basis for the AW13 collection and function being key for Martine Rose, an organic partnership with footwear brand Bates- who’s innovative and superior products outfit elite military organizations in more than sixty countries came about very organically. Developing and extending the utilitarian approach as the Martine Rose boy has matured, the military references from Bates compliment the collection perfectly- particularly with the addition of peacoats this season.
