'Park Life' Richard James AW13 LONDON MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun

It’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful
Ha! It’s all too beautiful

Itchycoo Park* by Small Faces

The Autumn/Winter ’13 Park Life collection is inspired by a unique fixture of London living that abounds with a curious, all-consuming life of its own.

London’s parks are the place to promenade and find peace, for exhibitions and exhibitionism and encounters both innocent and illicit. Boating and bandstands, shows and show offs, spies and secret lovers…

This is a collection that draws from a stunning, deep, colour palate that seamlessly shifts with the seasons: autumnal burnt orange; toffee and camel; rich blackberry; sharp, wintery magenta and ink blue and teal are anchored by solid base colours of clean greys and softer, fleeting beiges and oatmeal.

Picture the brilliant reds of bandsmen’s uniforms, deep purples of hedgerow fruit and burnished gold of autumn leaves against sheet silver skies and glassy, piercingly blue lakes.

Fabrics and suitings are rich and reassuringly soft and warming: Alpaca and camel, colour-flecked Donegal and Prince of Wales checks with exquisitely light, lifting overchecks. Cashmere and Alpaca scarves add another level of colour and contrast.

Unstructured, double-breasted outerwear and tailoring exudes a classic, clean-lined British sensibility, but is cut with comfort as well as refinement in mind.

Step into the intriguing, inimitable parallel world that is Park Life.

* Itchycoo Park was the name given by children to Little Ilford Park in London E12 due to its proliferation of stinging nettles.
