Introducing The FreeStep A Revolution in Cycling

The FreeStep – A Revolution in Cycling

Introducing a revolution in cycling, the FreeStep combines a healthy mix of art, design and fitness, signalling the end of conventional cycling.

The quirky looking bicycle with no seat, or even pedals, is tailored perfectly to the natural biomechanics of the human body. Propelled by a stepping motion upon boards, similar to the stepper machine in any gym, the FreeStep is a custom built bike, evolved from the original 3G Stepper invented by the legendary Gary Silva and lovingly crafted by Simple Genius.

With no seat, riding the FreeStep feels like a cross between a push scooter and a skateboard. A breakthrough in design, the rider remains fully upright for both operation and rest positions, helping to avoid many mainstream cycling stresses to the neck, back and knee. By employing the natural upright position and transforming torque through an almost straight leg, opposed to a high bent knee, conserves a large amount of energy, originally spent stabilizing the knees, back and ankle. Further muscular pressure is avoided as the bike primarily uses the riders weight to move, whilst the height gained from the riding position also enables remarkable road visibility, with the rider easily able to see over traffic.

Utilising the same exercise motion as on a gym stepper, the FreeStep works more muscle groups than traditional cycling. The full range of motions used in propelling the FreeStep works key muscle groups in the legs, torso, and shoulders.

Now for the design. Taking the original Silva concept, East London based ‘bespokers’, Simple Genius, have adapted the bike adding an artistic flavour, producing one off design classics that can be customised to suit. Tinkering with wheels, frames, gears and colourways Simple Genius produces eye-catching, one-off designs turning the ride into more of a statement, all this whilst considering the environment, using recycled materials were possible. From diamond encrusted frames to gold plated forks, skinny racing wheels to chunky BMX treads the FreeStep is a versatile new direction in cycling evolution.

Pricing – The price of the FreeStep depends on the build brief with a basic/standard model typically retailing from £1000.
