EXCLUSIVE - Christian Louboutin 20th Anniversary Capsule Collection

Pensee is revered by its maker Christian Louboutin as “the shoe that inspired the red sole”. This iconic

creation is one of the twenty unforgettable styles chosen by Christian Louboutin to be included in
a special Capsule Collection created to mark the brand’s 20th Anniversary. Along with six one of a
kind bags, this special collection will make its debut to the world early next year.

This edited collection is a look at twenty years of the work of Louboutin and embodies the central
themes that have come to define his craft. His love for art, architecture, fine arts and design, his lifelong fascination with the world of showgirls and cabaret, passion for exotic destinations and a
deep admiration for craftsmanship are all values deeply rooted in his work. These inspirations
manifest themselves in Louboutin’s designs in unexpected ways through his ingenious use of unique
materials, shapes and colors. His mastery of playing with proportions, taking shoes to new heights
and the ever-present flirtation with the world of fetishism, have over time solidified an identity
undeniably his own.

Seduced by the glamorous world of cabaret as a teenager, Louboutin’s earliest designs were intended

for the feet of the graceful dancers gliding on the stages of Paris. He sees the showgirl as an ultrafeminine
representation of beauty and exoticism and often compares her to a bird of paradise. This
vivid and fantastical imagery finds life in La Pluminette, an ethereal shoe embellished with a flurry
of feathers giving its wearer an illusion of weightlessness and agility. The admiration and enthusiasm
for the dancer and the art of performance have continued to be a rich source of inspiration for
Louboutin. From the famous legs and the soaring energy of Tina Turner, to the glamour and seduction
of Dita von Teese’s performances, a Louboutin creation has a natural presence on stage.
Highness-Tina, another ingenious piece of this special collection, is that energy and glamour
captured, translated and realized through language of shoe making. An ode to this extraordinary performer, these sky high suede boots are electrifying as the layers of fringe playfully move
with each step.

Over the years, Louboutin’s artistic evolution has been tremendously enriched through his love for
travel. His taste for the exotic, interpreted to reflect the Louboutin inimitable aesthetic, makes its
appearance in the designs of his shoes and bags season after season. His passion for exploration
feeds his imagination both through the discovery of new landscapes as well new cultures. Local
bazaars are treasure chests full of new colors, fabrics, art and furniture which often find their way
back to the world of Christian Louboutin.

The Copt sandal is an essential Louboutin piece which had its inception in Egypt. It was inspired by
a Coptic cross once bought from a local artisan from the Valley of the Queens in Luxor. Its vibrant
colors, intricate and delicate weaving, embody Louboutin’s love and admiration for the tradition
of handicraft.

From the artisans of Egypt to the haute couture tradition of his native France, craftsmanship remains
a principal value in the work of Christian Louboutin. “Being born and raised in Paris, I have a precise
idea of couture and of Parisian elegance.” the designer explains. This sensibility is beautifully captured
in the Armadillo, an elegant peep toe d’Orsay pump, updated for this Capsule Collection with a metal
pin heel and a delicate ankle strap. With its precise and symmetrical pleating detail, the Armadillo
synthesizes traditional French couture elements with a sharp touch of the modern.

Louboutin’s Parisian atelier is a place where his multiple ideas come to life. Over the past twenty
years, the techniques and artistry of his work have produced some unique pieces. From the exquisite
embroideries of Jean-Francois Lesage adorning the Marie Antoinette inspired shoes, to the sculptural
and extreme pieces created for the David Lynch “Fetish” exhibition in Paris, the possibilities
are endless. The Artemis Paris is a bag conjured in the atelier exclusively for the Capsule Collection.
Its dramatic shoulder piece is a crystal covered landscape adorned with the city’s supreme landmarks
realized through the Louboutin spectrum, it is the city of Paris according to Christian
Louboutin. Hand crafted with elements gathered from all over the world, this unique piece is a
celebration of the artistry and imagination of the inimitable Louboutin aesthetic.

Each style included in this special collection is rich with history, full of life and carries with it a unique
story of creation and inspiration. These styles are moments in the life and evolution of a designer,
the women who covet these objects of desire and the flourishing brand which is instantly recognizable
by its unmistakable red soles. The innovation and imagination behind Louboutin’s mesmerizing
shoes and his utter devotion to women have impressed an influential mark on the world of design
and have established him as one of the world’s most visionary and important shoemakers.

“In France, twenty years defines a generation.
This is a celebration of the first generation of this brand;
an anniversary of its first young adventure.”
